Relationships and Health Education : Intent and Implementation
At Roe Green Infant School, we believe we can help our children to became confident individuals who have positive body awareness and in-depth knowledge on how to keep themselves safe and healthy. Through respect, tolerance and understanding, children will forge and maintain positive relationships within school and the wider community. This lifelong learning about relationships is taught through the Jigsaw Scheme.
Relationships Education will put in place the building blocks needed for positive and safe relationships, including with family, friends and online. We teach this in a mindful and sensitive manner at an age appropriate level.
As we are an infant school, Sex Education is not taught at this stage.
Relationships and Health Education (RHE) is an integral part of a child’s education. RHE is about understanding the importance of family life, stable and loving relationships, respect for others, love and care. We are mindful to ensure that there is no stigmatism of any child based on their home circumstances and we do not use RHE as a means of promoting any form of sexual orientation. We aim to provide an RHE curriculum that promotes our school’s ethos and values (friendly, creative, honest, trustworthy, health & safety, resilient, respectful, being positive, independent, being an achiever).
In RHE we cover six topics throughout the year, one per half term. There is a weekly lesson, circle times take place within class, and themes are reinforced through the weekly PSHE assembly.
