Art is the oldest form of expression and allows one to think outside the box. During Art sessions children are encouraged to express their own ideas, feelings, thoughts and experiences in a visual form to promote enjoyment in all art activities. Children are shown different techniques that they can use to develop their knowledge of the subject and are able to experiment with a variety of media. We believe that children should be given the opportunity to enjoy, discuss and respond to a variety of art, craft and design forms. In order to achieve this, the teaching of art is embedded within all aspects of the curriculum, as well as being taught and valued as an individual subject. All staff including ECT and students are encouraged and provided to develop their artistic skills which can enhance their teaching.

Children are encouraged to appreciate Art and be immersed in a skill based curriculum, using a school-based scheme and the Kapow scheme. Art enables children to develop and extend skills, as well as enhancing their own personal slant on being creative. We provide a wide range of media and materials to enable children to explore the world at first hand, using their senses and experimentation to gain knowledge and understanding of the world in which we live. Our curriculum allows children to flourish in painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques. Children show real pride in their work when it is shared and displayed. Questioning is crucial for the commencement of our creative topics, for discussion and for making aesthetic judgements of theirs and others’ work.  We ensure that children are given the opportunity to enrich and widen their art vocabulary whilst enjoying, a variety of art, craft and design forms of diverse cultures, providing stimulus for their own creative expression. Throughout the different topics, pupils will be provided with feedback during lessons and opportunities for reflection and extension of their skills.
